2017 – 2018 Season
This year is another year of firsts for Shawnigan female hockey. On the strength of a 19-4-3 regular season last year in the Midget Varsity division, the Shawnigan girls’ team has moved up a division and is now playing in the more challenging Midget Prep division. There are 8 teams in this division and the games so far have been very competitive.
The Shawnigan girls are excited to challenge themselves with this new level of play, and have already seen vast improvements on the ice. After an early road trip to Calgary, the team will travel to Winnipeg, Edmonton, NY, Langley and Penticton as part of a full schedule.
Head coach Carly Haggard has a vision for this season, and the girls are working hard to find success. The core of this team is enjoying their second full season together and the four new additions have fit in amazingly well. They are all encouraged by the huge potential for individual growth while being able to watch the team play better hockey every game.
It is an exciting time for Shawnigan hockey and the female program is firing on all cylinders. The jump to the Prep division is exactly the challenge this team needed and they are confident that the season will end with them battling for a title.
